How much is the empathy in your software worth?

In a business world that is often perceived as chaotic and rushed, we need empathy to create connections, bring people together and to forge friendships. In technology assignments empathy promotes understanding of the ‘other’, sharpens our capacity to relate and enables us to develop healthy working relationships.

The art of imaginatively stepping into another person’s shoes and seeing the world from their perspective is more valuable now from a software perspective than ever before and an essential component when work collaboratively.

But how do we develop these feelings and who has the responsibility of engendering this understanding?

Can empathy be taught?

How do we manage our work, fulfill our responsibilities effectively while also imparting empathy?

What does empathy offer in the context of a software development?

I’m not going to address all these issues here as everyone starts from their own viewpoint, however I’d be happy to discuss these issues over a coffee in Sydney if anyone cares?
